Please help us give back to our community by showing your support for the pets of Hunt County with a monetary donation towards their nutritional needs. You can make a donation via PayPal by using the link on our website, www.turtlecreekvmc.com, or on our Facebook page by clicking the “Jingle Bowls Donate” button. Donations will also be accepted at our clinic located at 5900 Jack Finney Blvd, Greenville, TX. You may call our office at (903) 454-6222, or reach us via email at info@turtlecreekvmc.com, and one of our friendly staff members will be glad to assist you. We will be accepting donations through Friday December 23, 2011, for delivery to the Hunt County Shared Ministries’ corporate office. Thank you for your support of the furry companions of those in need through this service project! We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

The Holidays are coming!

The chill in the air adds to the anticipation and excitement for the holiday season! The holidays are an exciting time of year for us and our pets; however, there may be some hidden dangers in all of the gifts we receive and share with our friends and neighbors. From the baked goods, holiday dinner and even the decorative plants, our furry family members can find trouble. Here are some helpful tips to help keep your pet safe and healthy this holiday season!

POTENTIAL HARMFUL FOODS:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Chocolate (Baker’s, semi-sweet, milk and white)
  • Coffee (grounds, beans, chocolate-covered espresso beans)
  • Moldy or spoiled foods
  • Onions & onion powder
  • Fatty foods (fat trimmed off of meat)
  • Salt
  • Yeast dough
  • Candy with foil

Most of these foods can and will cause severe gastrointestinal problems including vomiting, diarrhea and even pancreatitis which requires hospitalized care.

PONTENTIAL HARMFUL PLANTS:

  • Lilies – potentially deadly in cats (Tiger, Asian, Japanese Show, Easter, Star Gazer, Casa Blanca)
  • Poinsettias – Causes gastrointestinal upset and irritation to mouth
  • Mistletoe – Causes gastrointestinal upset and may cause cardiovascular problems.
  • Holly – Causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy

OTHER HOLIDAY HAZARDS:

  • Tinsel
  • Batteries
  • Ribbon
  • Ingestion of Christmas tree extender (additive to the water of your Christmas tree)
  • Ethylene Glycol
  • Medications (With guests in our home, they may leave their prescription medications in a location that our curious critters may access.)

Holiday Hours

We will be closed Saturday December 24th through Monday December 26th to allow our staff members time to celebrate Christmas with their families. In case of an emergency, please contact us at (903)268-1555. We will be open for regular business hours during the New Year's weekend.

Horses, Wagons and Christmas Cheer!

Christmas Cheer

The staff at Turtle Creek Veterinary Medical participated once again in the annual Greenville Christmas lights parade! We always enjoy the opportunity to help kick off the Christmas season with the help of our families and friends! This year, we had our BIG horses pulling Santa’s Veterinary Workshop! Dr. Rocky was busy making sure that Rudolph was healthy enough for his big night! You can see more pictures of our adventure on our Facebook page.
